Drunk cop shoots 1, threatens customers in restaurant
MANILA, Philippines - A policeman was arrested for shooting a casino dealer and threatening customers, including a police official, and employees at a fastfood restaurant in Marulas, Valenzuela shortly before midnight Sunday.
Police Officer 1 John Rhayan Tenebro, assigned to the Malabon Police Community Precinct 2, arrived at the restaurant on his motorcycle and saw Nia Dianne Galvan, 23; and Yogi Ong, 21, about to leave the restaurant, Valenzuela police chief Senior Superintendent Rhoderick Armamento said.
Tenebro, who reeked of liquor, poked his pistol at the two and asked them where they were going. The two ignored him and revved up their motorcycle.
Tenebro then shot Galvan, hitting her in the leg, then entered the store and pistol-whipped Drealyn Alere, 22, one of the customers.
The policeman then pointed his gun at everyone in the restaurant and told them to lie face down on the floor. He threatened restaurant manager Alister Macawile and kicked some of the customers.
One customer, Peter Mangadlo, 43, grabbed him from behind, prompting the other customers to gang up on him.
Chief Inspector Renante Lambojo, assigned to the Caloocan police station, helped the other customers subdue Tenebro. Lambojo was having dinner at the restaurant when Tenebro walked in.
Police Officer 2 Ronald Cabusao arrived a few minutes later and took Tenebro to the police station.
Armamento said he talked to Malabon police chief Senior Superintendent Severino Abad, who assured him that Tenebro will face charges.
A source told The STAR that Tenebro had a traffic altercation with Galvan and Ong a few minutes before the incident and that he followed the two and cornered them at the restaurant.
Tenebro, who is currently detained at the Valenzuela City Jail, was charged with frustrated homicide, three counts of grave threats and slight physical injuries.
