Cedric Lee’s spokesman quits

Michael Rebuyas - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The lawyer of Cedric Lee, who has been implicated in the mauling of actor and television host Vhong Navarro last month in Taguig City, resigned yesterday as his spokesman.

In a letter to Lee, a copy of which was furnished to ABS-CBN’s “Buzz Ng Bayan,” Raymond Fortun said his client breached a prior agreement that he and others involved in the case would not give any statements to the media without the consent of his lawyers.

According to the ABS-CBN report, Fortun was probably referring to Deniece Cornejo’s statement that there was no malice in the new CCTV footage released by the NBI where Lee was seen kissing the 22-year-old model.

Host Boy Abunda said Cornejo explained that the gesture was a sign of gratitude because Lee helped her after Navarro allegedly tried to rape her.

Fortun also cited “the country’s apparent unpreparedness to temper their emotions” in the light of his client’s Constitutional rights to due process, which resulted in “inaccurate reportage and unprofessional actions of certain law enforcement agencies.”

Saying that his resignation is “effective immediately,” Fortun wished Lee the best in his case.
