Fortun is Lee spokesman, not lawyer

MANILA, Philippines - Lawyer Raymond Fortun clarified yesterday that he is the spokesman and not one of the lawyers of businessman Cedric Lee, who was among those implicated in the beating of actor Vhong Navarro inside model Deniece Cornejo’s condominium unit in Taguig City.

“Spokesperson lang po (Just a spokesperson),” said Fortun in a text message to The Star yesterday.

In his Facebook account, Fortun said he loves underdogs and a recent episode of “The Buzz” made him realize how a powerful media entity can sway public opinion to demonize a person such as Lee.

“I enjoy the good fight, and I relish handling the toughest cases. Lawyering for me has never been about the money. It’s about the pursuit for truth and justice, it’s about fairness and equality,” he said.

Fortun also apologized to the people who may think that he let them down by being Lee’s spokesman.

“At the end of the day, I concede that I cannot please everyone, but my only comfort is that I can face my Maker with a straight face and tell Him that I had done my duty to Him and my profession,” he said.

Lee, Cornejo and Lee’s sister, Bernice, are represented by a team of lawyers led by Howard Calleja.
