Navy eyes 4,000 recruits

MANILA, Philippines -  The Philippine Navy seeks to recruit 4,000 new members within the next two years to address what it described as “personnel deficiency” and to ensure enough manpower for its ships.

Navy spokesman Lieutenant Commander Gregory Fabic said yesterday they hope to recruit at least 100 candidates for the Naval Officer Candidate Course and 1,900 candidates for the Basic Seaman Course for this year and in 2015.

 â€œThe new recruits are expected to fill up the specialized positions in line with the Navy’s capacity and capability,” Fabic said.

The regular attrition of its personnel, at a rate of 500 per year, as well as the expected arrival of new ships prompted the Navy to shore up its recruitment efforts.

Fabic said the Navy recruitment center at the Bonifacio Naval Station in Taguig City administers two examinations every Thursday.
