Motorists hit week-long traffic jam on Roxas Blvd

Aie Balagtas See - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Motorists complained yesterday of heavy traffic along Roxas Boulevard and nearby areas reportedly due to the Shell Eco-Marathon at Rizal Park.

The Manila Police District’s traffic bureau asked for understanding from motorists.

“This is only a week-long activity. We should be proud because it has a great impact on our economy. We are asking (motorists) to please bear with us,” MPD traffic bureau head Chief Inspector Olivia Sagaysay said.

The international event kicked off last Sunday and will last until Feb. 12. About 5,000 foreigners are expected to participate in the event.

Sagaysay said the police and the city government have already “maximized” their efforts by deploying majority of its traffic police and traffic aides to the marathon site and nearby roads.
