MANILA, Philippines - A businessman and his companion were killed while two others were injured when his car hit an electric bicycle before ramming a lamppost in Marikina City yesterday.

Businessman Randy Salazar, 40, and Wilson Tariallo, 39, died on the scene from head and body injuries.

Benjamin Benabice, 52, and Julie Ann Teruftas, 30, the driver of the electric bicycle, suffered foot injuries. They were taken to the Amang Rodriguez Memorial Medical Center for treatment.

Salazar was driving a white Mazda Familia (WDF-432) along Gen. Ordoñez street in Barangay Marikina Heights when it swerved to the left and hit Teruftas’ electric bicycle, said Marikina police chief Senior Superintendent Reynaldo Jagmis. The car continued to move until it hit a lamppost.

Jagmis said the electric bicycle and the left portion of the Familia were wrecked.

Witnesses said Benabice reeked of liquor when they rushed him to the hospital. Police officers are still investigating the incident.
