‘Drunk’ motorist hits taxi, jeep

Non Alquitran - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - A motorist was arrested Sunday night for allegedly slamming his sport utility vehicle (SUV) into a concrete barrier in Cainta, Rizal and then hitting a taxi and a passenger jeepney.

Roldan Fajarit, who police said tested positive for alcohol, claimed he hit the barrier at around 11:30 p.m. Sunday because he avoided hitting another vehicle.

Residents said there are frequent accidents along Ortigas Avenue Extension because the concrete barriers do not have reflectors.

A witness, Buen Fernando, said the SUV continued to move to the other side of the road and hit a taxi and a jeepney before coming to a complete stop.

A female passenger of the taxi suffered head injuries and was rushed to the Medical City hospital for treatment.

Fajarit denied that it was his SUV that hit the taxi.

Police officers are readying charges of reckless imprudence resulting in damage to property and physical injuries against Fajarit, who is detained at the Cainta police municipal jail.
