Rape-slay suspect nabbed in Manila

MANILA, Philippines - The Manila Police District arrested a pedicab driver for allegedly raping and killing a six-year-old girl in Paco, Manila on Monday night.

Police identified the suspect as Mark Avila, 29.

Avila was driving his pedicab when operatives of the MPD-homicide division and Station 10 pounced on him.

The suspect was high on drugs when he raped and killed Arlyn Joy Balolong, according to Inspector Steve Casimiro.

The victim was later found dead and without underwear in front of the old train station along President Quirino Avenue. Her private part was swollen and bloodied.

The girl’s mother, Elizabeth, identified  her daughter’s body.

Her remains were brought to a funeral parlor for autopsy.
