Cop gunned down in QC

MANILA, Philippines - A 55-year-old policeman was shot dead as he was cleaning his car near his house in Barangay Sta. Monica, Quezon City yesterday morning.

Senior Police Officer 1 Miguel Gayagoy was shot at least nine times, investigators said, adding that they believe his murder was work-related.

Police Officer 3 Modesto Juanson of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit said Gayagoy was doing his daily routine when an unidentified gunman approached him and shot him once.

Gayagoy was able to run toward his house but his attacker chased him, caught him in a narrow alley, and shot him repeatedly before escaping on foot.

Investigators recovered six spent shells, three slugs and a bullet, all from a .45 caliber pistol, from the scene.

Juanson said many knew Gayagoy as a dedicated and hardworking policeman who was set to retire soon. He said the victim worked in various Quezon City Police District units before his current assignment at the QCPD Station 4 in Novaliches.
