Fire hits ISAFP headquarters

MANILA, Philippines - A fire broke out at the headquarters of the Intelligence Service of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (ISAFP) at Camp Aguinaldo yesterday afternoon.

The blaze, which lasted for almost an hour, gutted the message center of the ISAFP.

Investigators from the AFP Headquarters and Headquarters Support Service (HHSS) said the fire was caused by faulty electrical wiring.

It could not be immediately ascertained if there were important documents that were destroyed by the fire.

HHSS probers said the blaze started at around 5:15 p.m. and was placed under control at about 6:35 p.m.

The message center is located at the ground floor of a building across the Office of Civil Defense building at Camp Aguinaldo.

The military’s intelligence unit is due for abolition in the first quarter of this year as part of a program to streamline the AFP. After its deactivation, it will have a new name and be placed under civilian control at the Department of National Defense.
