Bus runs over cop on patrol

MANILA, Philippines - A policeman was hit and run over by a bus while he was walking to his patrol car in Quezon City Wednesday night.

Police Officer 3 Reynaldo Tumala, 52, of Quezon City Police District Station 2, was brought to the Quezon City General Hospital following the incident.

The policeman sustained injuries and cuts in the face, knees and legs. He reportedly complained of chest pain and was set to undergo more tests.

Bus driver Paulo Botin, 34, was also rushed to the hospital after bystanders beat him up when he allegedly tried to escape.

Botin is also being treated at the East Avenue Medical Center. He is facing reckless imprudence resulting in physical injuries charges.

Tumala was on foot patrol and was crossing Congressional Avenue near EDSA when an Admiral bus driven by Botin hit him at around 9 p.m., Senior Police Officer 3 Ronquillo Maaño said.
