Charges filed vs comedian’s ex-wife

MANILA, Philippines - The Quezon City prosecutor’s office recommended yesterday the filing of charges against the estranged wife of Eat Bulaga host and comedian Jose Manalo and two others for allegedly using a fake land title as collateral for a loan.

In his six-page review resolution, city prosecutor Donald Lee recommended the filing of other deceits and falsification of public documents charges against Anna Lyn Manalo, Renilda Navasero, and Rosita Abanes before the Metropolitan Trial Court. He set bail at P12,000 for each of the respondents.

In the same resolution, Lee dismissed the cases against the comedian and another respondent, Libert Rosalita, for lack of probable cause.

The cases stemmed from the complaints of businessman Froilan Clemente Jr., who claimed that the Manalo couple had an P11.4-million loan with him with 10 land titles of their properties as collateral.

In 2008, the Manalo couple allegedly decided to transfer their loan with Clemente to a lending firm and replaced four of the land titles with a title to another property, valued at P12 million. The title turned out to be fake, Clemente said.
