No video of attack on Fortun’s wife

Non Alquitran - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - There is no closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage available showing the attack on the wife of lawyer Raymund Fortun, police said yesterday.

On the other hand, Las Piñas police chief Senior Superintendent Adolfo Samala said investigators recovered a slug of a .38 caliber revolver embedded in a wall of the house of the Fortuns at BF Homes in Almanza.

“That explains why no empty shell was recovered in the area as it remains in the chamber of the revolver,” Samala said.

He said there was no video of the actual attack but only video clips from neighbors showing the supposed gunmen maneuvering their motorcycle to escape after Caroline Fortun was shot last Thursday.

Samala said the video clips are not clear because they were taken at night. The Las Piñas police are asking the help of other police units and government agencies to enhance them, he said.

Samala described the driver of the motorcycle as wearing a black jacket and a helmet while his back rider, the suspected gunman, was wearing a T-shirt and long pants.

“The back rider is not wearing a helmet. We are hoping that once the video clips are enhanced, we could identify him and his companion,” he said.

Caroline was hit in the right cheek, the bullet exiting at her nape. She is now in stable condition at the Perpetual Help Hospital, Samala said. Investigators have not yet taken Caroline’s statement.

Fortun earlier expressed the belief that the gunman was really after him, but did not elaborate on the possible motive.

He said Caroline told him that she was parking her car at their house when she was attacked. Samala said the gunman was still on the motorcycle when he shot Caroline, who had just attended mass at a church several blocks away.
