Barangay councilman survives ambush in QC

MANILA, Philippines - A barangay councilman was attacked by three motorcycle-riding gunmen at his eatery in Quezon City yesterday morning, more than a month after a barangay watchman was killed in the same area.

Roxas District councilman Pedro Salazar Jr. survived the attack and managed to fire back and hit one of the gunmen who shot him outside his eatery, which was adjacent to his home, along Dahlia street at around 9 a.m.

Superintendent Limuel Obon said Salazar and several witnesses identified in the rogue’s gallery one of the three gunmen, but declined to name him due to ongoing follow-up operations.

On Nov. 11, barangay watchman Rodelio Panti, 48, was killed after he was shot by two unidentified men while he was eating with Salazar at the latter’s eatery. The gunmen fled on a motorcycle.

Because of the incident, Obon said that Salazar became more alert – he got his gun after seeing three men driving around the neighborhood on two motorcycles.

When Salazar went out to his eatery, Obon said he was surprised to see the gunmen get off their motorcycles and start shooting at him.  The gunmen fled when Salazar shot at them, Obon said.
