Bautista to report on QC’s status

MANILA, Philippines - Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista is set to deliver his fourth State of the City Address tomorrow afternoon.

Aldrin Cuña, Bautista’s chief of staff, said this year’s address was moved to December because the mayor wanted to convey his report to the newly elected and re-elected barangay officials, who assumed office on Nov. 30.

The address is usually delivered during the city’s founding anniversary in October.

Bautista is expected to enumerate in his speech his administration’s achievements in the past year. He was elected, along with Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte, to a second term in the May elections.

In his last year’s address, Bautista called for support to transform the city into a “global growth generator city,” where “the next economic miracles will take place.”

The mayor said the city has to take advantage of the four sectors that promises economic growth – information technology, health and wellness, environment-based business, and tourism.

In his address during his oath-taking last June, the mayor dubbed Quezon City as the “city of the future.”

He promised to further improve the services offered by the local government through projects that seek to empower the city’s residents.

“We shall endeavor to raise the bar of service to the people a rung higher,” he said, citing his administration’s plans to revise its revenue code to make it easier for people to establish businesses in the city.

“We will not allow the rich to become richer, and the poor to become poorer,” the mayor said in Filipino.
