Marikina donates 5,000 pairs of shoes to Yolanda victims

MANILA, Philippines - The city government of Marikina has donated 5,000 pairs of shoes and P5 million worth of goods to victims of Typhoon Yolanda in the Visayas.

Mayor Del de Guzman said the donation was part of their “mercy mission” for the typhoon survivors.

“We see people from all over the world outdoing one another in opening their hearts and their wallets for the survivors of Yolanda. This is the real message of Christmas – caring for one another,” he said.

Carlito Galamgam of the shoe company Zhoebless donated the 5,000 pairs of shoes to Vice Mayor Jose Fabian Cadiz.

A contingent from the local government of Marikina left on Nov. 29 to conduct relief operations in the towns of Hernani and Laurente in Samar and Julita in Leyte.
