QC tanod shot dead

MANILA, Philippines - A village watchman was shot dead by motorcycle-riding gunmen in Quezon City Monday night as he was having dinner with a newly elected barangay official.

Rodelio Panti, 48, of Barangay Roxas District, died while being treated for a gunshot wound in the back of the head at the Capitol Medical Center at past midnight yesterday, Senior Police Officer 1 Cristituto Zaldarriaga said.

The victim was with newly elected barangay councilor Pedro Zalazar Sr. at an eatery when the attackers drove by. After the motorcycle stopped in front of the eatery, the back rider got off and shot the victim before fleeing.
