Ex-Marikina councilor ambushed

MANILA, Philippines - A former Marikina City councilor and his bodyguard were ambushed in Cainta, Rizal as they were on their way to Marikina last night.

Elmer Nepomuceno and his bodyguard, identified only as a certain Rituano, were attacked as they were driving along the Sumulong Highway in front of a car dealership near Cainta’s border with Marikina at around 6:30 p.m.

The victims had come from the Texas Cockpit in Antipolo, the Cainta police said.

Cainta police chief Superintendent Carlito Briones said the two men were rushed to a hospital after the ambush.
