MANILA, Philippines - The Philippines and Poland have started discussions for the opening of a Polish embassy in Manila.

Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Assistant Secretary for European Affairs Maria Zeneida Angara Collinson recently met a delegation from Poland to discuss the opening of the embassy.

Director Janusz Bilksi of the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that given the upswing of the Philippine economy, it would be beneficial for Poland to have a permanent presence in the Philippines to enhance political, economic and tourism exchanges.

The establishment of a Polish embassy in Manila would be a milestone for 40 years of Philippines-Poland diplomatic relations.

The Philippines is currently under the jurisdiction of the Polish embassy in Kuala Lumpur.  Poland maintains honorary consulates in Manila, Cebu and General Santos.

The Polish delegation also called on Speaker Feliciano Belmonte Jr. to discuss the creation of a Philippines-Poland Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group to enhance ties between the two countries.
