4 nabbed for illegal fishing

MANILA, Philippines - Four fishermen were arrested for using explosives to catch fish in the waters off Navotas Wednesday afternoon.

Dante Garcia, Allan Miamo, Melvin Tapoy, and Ricardo Prudenciano were reportedly caught hauling several kilos of spadefish to shore after Bantay Dagat enforcers were alerted about fishermen using explosives, according to a police report.

The fishermen’s catch and their boat were taken to the city agricultural office for examination. The four men were charged with violating Republic Act 8550, the Philippine Fisheries Code of 1998.
