Malabon bet denies ties with actress’ attacker

MANILA, Philippines - A candidate for councilman in Longos, Malabon City earlier reported as a cousin of the attacker of actress Angelica dela Cruz yesterday denied that he was a relative of the suspect.

Buddha delos Reyes, who is running under the ticket of Dela Cruz’s rival for the barangay’s top post, clarified that he had nothing do with the incident. 

Dela Cruz was campaigning along Martinilo and Maya-Maya streets last Saturday when Pedro Becondado, 37, tried to attack her.

Delos Reyes’ name cropped up after Becondado reportedly admitted that they were relatives.

But Delos Reyes denied this and said the suspect is a resident of Tondo, Manila.

Dela Cruz had earlier filed charges of frustrated murder and violation of the Omnibus Election Code against the suspect at the Malabon prosecutor’s office.
