Youth group to sell Pedrito dolls for quake victims

MANILA, Philippines - A Catholic youth group is selling Pedrito dolls, named after St. Pedro Calungsod, to raise funds for the earthquake victims of Bohol and Cebu.

The 15-inch Pedrito doll was a success when it was first launched during Calungsod’s canonization at the Vatican on Oct. 21, 2012.

“We are re-launching the Pedrito dolls as proceeds of the sale would go to the victims of the earthquake in Cebu and Bohol. We in Youth Pinoy believe that St. Pedro Calungsod is telling us to help his ‘kababayans’ by helping rebuild the Church there, by which we mean not only the structures but the hearts of the people and their faith in God,” Youth Pinoy officer-in-charge April Frances Ortigas said.

The CBCPNews, the official news service provider of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines, reported that the doll would still be sold at P650 and for every doll sold P100 would be donated to the victims of Bohol and Cebu and to help restore the churches ruined by the quake.

She said those interested in buying Pedrito dolls should log on to http://youthpinoy.com/home/order-your-own-pedrito-doll/ to make a reservation.
