MANILA, Philippines - A passenger bus traveling on EDSA’s southbound lane caught fire yesterday morning as it approached Cubao, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said.
According to the MMDA’s Metrobase, the Commuter bus (TXl-836) was traversing EDSA at about 9:40 a.m. when it caught fire. The bus driver, identified as Florentino Corpuz, guided his 21 passengers out of the bus to safety.
There were no persons hurt in the bus fire, the MMDA said.
The burning bus caused traffic to build up along EDSA as firefighters and rescuers from the MMDA rushed to the scene. The blaze was put out at about 10:20 a.m. and the bus was removed from EDSA.
According to the MMDA, the cause of the bus fire is still being investigated by the Quezon City fire department.
