Politics eyed in murder of barangay bet’s husband

Ramil Bajo, Rey Galupo - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Police are looking into a political rivalry as a possible motive behind the killing of the husband of a candidate for chairman for Barangay Tonsuya in Malabon City last week.

Allan Loquez, 43, whose wife Jenny Loquez is said to be a leading candidate in their area, was killed on Oct. 7.

Witnesses said Loquez was coming out of the house when an armed man shot him twice in the head.

He died while being treated at the Pagamutan ng Lungsod ng Malabon.

A relative told investigators that the couple started receiving death threats after Jenny expressed her intention to run in the Oct. 28 barangay elections.

Police said they are verifying reports that an incumbent barangay official had something to do with the killing.
