Ex-seaman found dead in Quiapo motel

MANILA, Philippines - A former seaman was found dead in a motel in Quiapo, Manila on Friday afternoon.

The body of Bayani Jade Resos, 37, bore “no visible signs of traumatic injuries,” but a half-empty container of flea powder and a glass of an unidentified liquid was found near him, investigators from the Manila Police District’s homicide division said.

Resos reportedly checked into the motel at about 9 a.m. and occupied a room for six hours. Based on motel records, he ordered three bottles of beer shortly after checking in and did not go out of his room again.

At 3 p.m., hotel supervisor George Las repeatedly knocked on the door of the room to inform Resos of his check-out time, but Resos did not respond.

Las used a duplicate key to open the room and found Resos’ body, fully clothed, lying facedown on the bed.

Investigators said Resos had been dead “for several hours” when he was found. Flecks of saliva were found around his mouth, they said.
