Mendoza’s burial set today
MANILA, Philippines - The remains of former Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Leandro Mendoza were brought to Camp Crame yesterday to allow his former colleagues to see him before his burial today.
PNP chief Director General Alan Purisima led police officials in paying their last respects to their former boss, who was the ninth PNP chief.
The Philippine flag at Camp Crame was hoisted at half-mast yesterday and will be in this position until Mendoza’s remains are brought to Heritage Park at 9 a.m. today. Mendoza, 67, died of a heart attack Monday.
In March 2012, he was ordered arrested by the Sandiganbayan on graft charges. He pleaded not guilty to allegations that he was involved in the aborted $329-million National Broadband Network deal along with former President and now Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and her husband, former First Gentleman Jose Miguel Arroyo.
