Soon in Manila: Waiting sheds with Wi-Fi access
MANILA, Philippines - The local government of Manila will put up waiting sheds equipped with free Wi-Fi or wireless Internet signal in various parts of the city, according to Vice Mayor Isko Moreno.
In an interview over television station GMA-7 on Tuesday, Moreno said the Wi-Fi ready sheds would be built at designated bus stops in the city.
The waiting sheds will be constructed along the LRT Station in Pureza, Arlegui in Quiapo, España Avenue, Quirino Avenue, Taft Avenue and in Rizal Park.
Moreno said at least 14 innovative waiting sheds would be constructed in the city soon.
He said the waiting sheds would be fitted with CCTV cameras to protect commuters from snatchers and other lawless elements.
A team from the city traffic bureau equipped with GTS and other communication gear will monitor incidents happening in and around the designated loading and unloading zones, the vice mayor added.
Earlier, the city government reaped criticisms from commuters and bus operators who resisted a local policy that prohibited the entry of buses without existing terminals in the city.
