MANILA, Philippines - A barangay watchman was arrested Friday for allegedly robbing a 60-year-old man of P10,000 in Pasig City.
Reynaldo dela Cruz, 34, a tanod of Barangay Ugong, did not resist arrest when he was cornered by police officers and barangay officials hours after allegedly robbing Rodolfo Dimla.
He remained silent when asked about the money he was accused of taking from Dimla, said Chief Inspector Glenn Magsino, head of the Pasig police’s criminal investigation section.
Magsino said Dimla woke up at past midnight Friday and saw Dela Cruz tinkering with his wife’s bag. The watchman allegedly held Dimla’s head and told him to go back to sleep, saying “I will act as your guard.â€
Fearing for his life, Dimla told authorities he pretended to sleep until Dela Cruz left, climbing through an open window.
Dimla told his wife, who was watching television at the ground floor of their house, about the robbery and together they reported the incident to barangay officials, who summoned the police.
