Cop climbs roof of QC house, ends up in jail

Reinir Padua - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - A policeman with personal troubles ended up in jail after he climbed to the roof of a house in Quezon City and caused a commotion Wednesday night.

Police Officer 2 Randy Barrameda of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Station 3 later claimed he did not intend to jump from the roof of a house on San Joaquin street in San Francisco del Monte.

After a four-hour pep talk from his fellow lawmen, Barrameda eventually went down and was taken into custody.

“He said he wouldn’t jump and would go down eventually. He claimed he just wanted to think,” said Barrameda’s boss, QCPD Station 3 commander Superintendent Michael Macapagal.

Barrameda underwent inquest proceedings for alarm and scandal.

The QCPD Station 2, which has jurisdiction over the area, was alerted to the incident at around 6 p.m. Wednesday when a resident complained about a man on the roof of a house owned by Nene Pasco. The man turned out to be Barrameda.

After learning that the man was one of his policemen, Macapagal sent a team led by Chief Inspector Jeffrey Bilaro to talk to Barrameda.

“He (Barrameda) told Bilaro that he has some personal problems and that he just went up to the roof to be alone. He seemed relaxed and not at all agitated,” Macapagal said.

Macapagal said Barrameda – who lives in San Jose del Monte, Bulacan – appeared to be sober and was unarmed. He said Barrameda had been on sick leave for the past several days due to complications from diabetes.

At past 10 p.m., Barrameda eventually gave himself up to Bilaro.
