MANILA, Philippines - A fire destroyed a portion of a cable of the Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT-1) yesterday morning, forcing officials to shut down half of the railway.
The fire started when sparks were seen on the catenary wire between the R. Papa and 5th Avenue stations in Manila at past 10 a.m.
LRT Authority spokesman Hernando Cabrera said the repair work on the catenary line required them to shut off power to the northbound part of railway, from the Central Terminal station in Lawton up to Roosevelt.
The LRT-1 resumed full operation at around 1:30 p.m.
