Ramil Bajo, Rey Galupo - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - A truck driver was stabbed dead and his son-in-law beaten up by drunk residents after their truck hit a sign in Barangay Longos, Malabon City Wednesday night.

Teodulfo Datuon, 54, was maneuvering his trailer truck at the corner of Lapu-lapu and Pampano streets at past 10 p.m. when the vehicle hit a sign. A group of men drinking along the sidewalk saw the accident and confronted Datuon, police said.

Datuon’s son-in-law and truck helper, Prime Jonald Edaniol, 23, alighted from the truck and apologized but the men beat him up. The driver tried to pacify the residents but one of them stabbed him repeatedly, according to a police report.

Police arrested John Ongotan, 23, also a truck helper, in connection with the attack.
