Pia Lee-Brago - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - A suspect in the killing of a female overseas Filipino worker (OFW) – whose body was found in a large suitcase at a dump in Nasr City, Egypt – has been apprehended by Egyptian authorities, an embassy report said.

Citing a report of the Philippine embassy in Cairo, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said Wednesday that the suspect, a man from the Central African Republic, confessed that he committed the crime.

“While under police custody, the suspect confessed that he committed the crime. And based on his narrative, the crime was premeditated,” DFA spokesman Raul Hernandez said.

The suspect and the victim were co-workers, he said. The police’s findings were corroborated by the pieces of information provided by the victim’s friends.

According to the police, the victim’s remains could be released in two weeks. The embassy will process the repatriation of her remains as soon as possible.

The OFW’s death was reported to the embassy last Aug. 17.
