Grenade explodes at engineer’s house
MANILA, Philippines - A grenade exploded at the house of an engineer in Quezon City early yesterday morning.
Reynaldo Fuentes, an executive of FF Cruz Construction Co., believes the bomb attack was work-related, according to Quezon City Police District (QCPD) director Chief Superintendent Richard Albano.
Albano said Fuentes was recently named chief executive officer of FF Cruz.
“When I asked him if he knew anybody who may have an axe to grind against him, he said he had someone in mind. But he declined to name the person at the moment,†the police official said.
Investigation showed that the explosion occurred at the garage of the house of Fuentes at past 5 a.m. along Scout Fuentebella street in Barangay Laging Handa.
Police said Fuentes was not around when the suspect lobbed the grenade at the garage.
His wife, son and housemaid were inside the house when the grenade blew up, police said.
No one was reported hurt in the explosion. But it damaged two vehicles – a Honda Jazz (LGX-774) and a Toyota Fortuner (ZGD-330). The Jazz was riddled with holes while the Fortuner’s left tire was blown.
There were four vehicles parked at the garage.
Albano said the attack was meant to scare of the engineer since the explosion was weak.
Police are tracking down the grenade-thrower, citing the closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage of the suspect.
Inspector Noel Sublay, chief of the QCPD’s Explosives and Ordnance Division, said the explosion was caused by an MK2 fragmentation grenade.
Sublay said a safety pin, a pull ring and metal fragments from the grenade were recovered at the blast site.
