Toxic metals found in baby bottles
MANILA, Philippines - Lead, arsenic and chromium have been found in painted designs on baby bottles sold in Divisoria, Manila, the EcoWaste Coalition and Arugaan said yesterday.
In a joint statement, the groups said these baby bottles, made in China, are being sold for P15 to P25 each in downtown Manila.
The bottles were found to contain “lead from 536 parts per million to 1,023 ppm, as well as traces of arsenic and chromium above levels of concern.â€
Velvet Escario-Roxas of Arugaan said lactating mothers “can hand-express their milk in the office. They have the right to 40-minute paid lactation breaks, according to Republic Act 10028, the expanded breastfeeding promotion law.†She said caregivers can “cupfeed the breastmilk while mom is away.â€
