MANILA, Philippines - Police foiled an attempt to kidnap a Chinese businessman in Manila’s Chinatown following the arrest of two members of a robbery/kidnapping gang in Pasay before midnight Tuesday.
Arrested were Marvin Bueno, 32, of Manggahan street, Paco, Manila and Guillermo Ressureccion, 33, of Hugo street, Quezon City.
The suspects were nabbed by policemen conducting routine patrol in Baclaran, according to Pasay police chief Senior Superintendent Rodolfo Llorca.
Police recovered from the suspects hideout in Makati City two airsoft rifles, a caliber .38 handgun, a caliber .22 revolver, live ammunition, two hand grenades and a notebook containing the details of their plan to kidnap a Chinese businessman in Chinatown next week.
The suspects were presented yesterday by Llorca and Southern Police District director Chief Superintendent Jose Erwin Villacorte to Metro Manila police director Chief Superintendent Marcelo Garbo Jr.
The two suspects tagged Richard Macatangay as the alleged leader of their group.
Llorca said he has ordered his men to launch a massive manhunt for Macatangay.
Charges of illegal possession of firearms and explosives will be filed against the suspects.
