Number coding stays

Perseus Echeminada - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will not lift the number coding scheme today to ensure the smooth flow of traffic in key areas, particularly along Commonwealth Avenue.

Francisco Manalo of the MMDA’s traffic discipline office said additional constables would be deployed near Batasang Pambansa Complex where President Aquino will deliver his 4th State of the Nation Address.

He said two trucks from the MMDA and the Department of Public Works and Highways would be on stand by to remove stalled vehicles and other obstacles along the highway.

Starting at 12:01 a.m., Manalo said the stretch of Commonwealth Avenue would be cleared from the Quezon Memorial Circle up to the Fairview Central Mall.

Motorists heading northbound will be allowed to use the highway’s left lane. Those heading south, on the other hand, can access the four lanes of Commonwealth Avenue.

The IBP Road will be closed to vehicular traffic at 12 noon.
