MPD sacks 432 cops who skipped flag-raising

Aie Balagtas See - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Manila Police District director Chief Superintendent Isagani Genabe Jr. sacked 432 police officers who failed to attend yesterday’s flag-raising ceremony.

“The accounting was simple. Absence this morning means they don’t want to be assigned in MPD anymore. So we will be giving them availability of transfer so they can transfer to places they want to serve. Very simple,” he said.

Genabe said there is no reason why MPD personnel, except those who are sick or on official business, should be absent because yesterday’s accounting was announced last week.

He added that they are already preparing the sacked police officers’ transfer papers to the National Capital Region Police Office.

The 432 police officers represent nearly half of 974 assigned at the MPD headquarters and a big chunk of the 2,625 police officers in Manila.

Genabe said he also plans to reassign police officers fom desk jobs at the MPD to man the streets.
