2 hurt as Valenzuela demolition turns violent

MANILA, Philippines -  Two persons were hurt and another was arrested when a demolition team and the police clashed with informal settlers near a subdivision in Barangay Bignay, Valenzuela City yesterday morning.

A staff of Mayor Rex Gatchalian said the informal settlers have already received five notices since last year to vacate the place and the city hall had already promised financial assistance but they refused to budge.

Two members of the city’s civil disturbance management unit were hurt as the informal settlers started hurling rocks, bottles and bags of feces, police said, adding that an informal settler was arrested.
