Parañaque hires new firm to haul garbage

Perseus Echeminada - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The local government of Parañaque has entered into a 30-day negotiated contract with a Manila-based waste management company to help in hauling at least 5,000 tons of garbage along the city’s roads.

Dump trucks from Leonel Waste Management have been deployed in various parts of the city to clean up the mess, city administrator Ding Soriano told The STAR.

Soriano said the contract with Leonel is only temporary as officials of the city’s qualification bids committee convened yesterday to look for a new contractor that would collect the city’s garbage.

“There is no garbage crisis in Parañaque. The pile of trash in certain areas accumulated because the drivers of new garbage trucks are not familiar with the areas,” Soriano said.

Former mayor Florencio Bernabe, for his part, clarified that Corinthian Trucking did not abandon its job contrary to claims that the contractor stopped collecting the garbage two weeks before its contract expired on June 30.
