Condo gas supply permanently shut off

MANILA, Philippines - Gas supply at the One Serendra and Two Serendra in Taguig City has been permanently shut off.

Serendra Inc., developer of the two condominiums at the Bonifacio Global City, recommended a permanent closure of the supply of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) at the condominiums.

“The developer’s decision is borne out of its inability to fully control and ensure the compliance by unit owners with the required safety measures within their units,” Serendra said in a statement.

“Mindful that its position may be unpopular and inconvenient for the Serendra community, the developer nonetheless considers the safety of the community as the paramount consideration for its recommendation,” it added.

Jorge Marco, Ayala Land Inc. (ALI) corporate communications head, said the unit owners were advised to shift to using electric stoves.

Marco added that the move to shut off the LPG supply was in line with a recommendation from Interior and Local Government Secretary Manuel Roxas for “an immediate and comprehensive check on the LPG systems of all residential and commercial establishments within Bonifacio Global City.”

The supply of LPG at Two Serendra was shut off minutes after the explosion at the building that left three persons dead last May 31.

Last June 8, gas supply at One Serendra was cut to allow a thorough inspection and to ensure the safety and integrity of the LPG system.

Serendra Inc. is an affiliate of ALI.
