11 hurt in jeepney accident

Reinir Padua - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Eleven persons were injured when two jeepneys collided at an intersection in Quezon City Friday afternoon.

The two jeepney drivers, Mamerto Unge, 28; and Peter Salazar, 43, were both at fault, and will be charged with reckless imprudence resulting in multiple physical injuries, Senior Police Officer 1 Edgardo Talacay said.

He said the collision happened at around 5 p.m. Friday at the intersection of Commonwealth and Tandang Sora Avenues in Barangay New Era.

Unge was driving along Tandang Sora Avenue and was headed toward Katipunan Avenue, while Salazar was cruising along Commonwealth Avenue and was going to the city hall.

Talacay said Unge saw the green light and went straight through the intersection even though Salazar had yet to reach the other side.

Due to the impact, Unge’s jeepney turned on its left side after hitting the middle of Salazar’s jeepney.
