3 Chinese charged for P296-M shabu
MANILA, Philippines - Three Chinese men were charged yesterday for illegal possession of and conspiring to sell illegal drugs after police officers seized 37 kilos of shabu, which has a street value of P296 million, from them Tuesday.
Yang Mou Yu, 35; his driver, Cai Chun Yuan, 45; and Yu Jian Ye, 40, were charged before the Department of Justice.
A lawyer from the Public Attorney’s Office, after conferring with the suspects, did not ask for a preliminary investigation but instead submitted the case for resolution, said Senior Superintendent Napoleon Taas, head of the Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Force.
The suspects were not granted bail, Taas said, adding that they could receive life imprisonment if convicted.
Yang and Cai were arrested in Binondo, Manila Tuesday night after handing over the shabu to an undercover police officer.
Superintendent Ismael Fajardo said Cai’s Toyota Camry (USG-771) yielded a kilo of shabu.
Yu fled in a Mitsubishi Lancer (UQS-989), but was caught in Trece Martires, Cavite. An estimated 20 kilos of shabu was found in Yu’s car, Taas said.
Police confiscated 14.7 kilos of shabu, a weighing scale, a sealer and several plastic bags from Yang’s condominium unit in Binondo.
