Jail guard faces raps over inmate’s escape

Aie Balagtas See - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - A jail guard is facing criminal and administrative charges over the escape of his “trusted” inmate from the Valenzuela City jail.

Aside from criminal case, police said Jail Officer 1 Ferdinand Bruzo would be charged with dereliction of duty.

Bruzo is tagged as the alleged “boss” of car theft and robbery suspect Prudito Capones Jr., who escaped from the city jail last Saturday.

Being a jail aide, Capones was allowed to stay out of his cell until 5 p.m. But Bruzo allegedly allowed him to stay beyond that time prior to the escape.

The inmate allegedly escaped through the gate at the rooftop of the jail building using a key that was supposedly under the care of Bruzo.

The jail guard had been placed under restrictive custody following the incident.
