Grenade left in front of Caloocan barangay hall

Janvic Mateo - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - A concerned citizen discovered an unexploded grenade left in front of a barangay hall in North Caloocan City Friday night.

The M-26 hand grenade was discovered by Romeo Cabanilla in front of Barangay 178 hall along Camarin Road at around 9:30 p.m., Senior Police Officer 2 Joselito delos Reyes said.

He said the unexploded grenade was discovered without a lever and that its striking pin was already removed.

Barangay officials immediately called police upon the discovery of the explosive. Special Weapons and Tactics personnel rushed to the scene to recover the grenade.

Police have yet to determine if the explosive was serviceable or if it was left in front of the barangay hall just to cause panic. Barangay captain Felipe Alday was not available yesterday to comment on the incident.
