Chinese tourists go after thief

MANILA, Philippines - Two Chinese tourists, a woman and her mother, chased a man who snatched their digital camera as they were taking a stroll along Katigbak Drive near Rizal Park in Manila yesterday morning.

Senior Police Officer 1 Edwin Lacuesta said he was directing traffic at the Anda Circle around 7 a.m. when he noticed Ying Fei Qi, 28, and her mother, Shi Qwan Zheu, running after the suspect, Mark Magayones, 25.

Lacuesta said he saw Ying take off her shoes as she chased Magayones, who ran toward Port Area. He joined in the chase, cornered the suspect, and recovered Ying’s Sony Cybershot digital camera.

Magayones, however, denied that he snatched Ying’s bag. He told police that another man did and just passed the bag to him.

Ying was brought to the Ospital ng Maynila for injuries she suffered while running barefoot after Magayones, Lacuesta said.
