MMDA: Smooth flow of traffic as classes start

Mike Frialde - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - About 1,000 traffic constables, deployed to direct the flow of traffic in the vicinity of Metro Manila’s schools, ensured the smooth opening of classes yesterday, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) reported.

MMDA assistant general manager for operations Emerson Carlos said the volume of traffic yesterday was not as heavy as expected since only public school students started classes.

“We expect that by next week, the volume of traffic will be heavier because (the public school students) will be joined by students from private schools,” Carlos said.

He added that aside from fielding traffic constables, the MMDA also repainted pedestrian crosswalks near schools and repaired traffic lights in areas where large schools are located.
