MANILA, Philippines - Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Alan Purisima yesterday ordered an inspection of plumbing system in all police stations nationwide to prevent leaks and save water.
Purisima issued the order after water concessionaire Maynilad cut the supply of water to the Manila Police District (MPD) due to unpaid bills amounting to P8 million, National Capital Regional Police Office (NCRPO) chief Director Leonardo Espina said.
“We are inspecting the plumbing system and found out there were leaks. To prevent waste of water, we initiated inspections of plumbing system in all police stations,†Espina said.
“We are proactive in doing that not only in NCRPO but also in police stations nationwide as ordered by PNP chief Purisima,†he added.
Espina said the unpaid water bills of MPD used to be P12 million. But during the term of Purisima as chief of the NCRPO, he settled up some of the bills.
The NCRPO clarified there was no misuse of funds.
Espina said the PNP leadership has set aside P2.1 million for the rehabilitation of plumbing system in police stations nationwide aside from the P8 million to be paid to Maynilad.
“When the money comes out next week we will start the rehabilitation of the plumbing system,†he added.
