MMDA hauls 70 tons of campaign materials

Perseus Echeminada - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has collected at least 70 tons of campaign materials of local and national candidates during the recently concluded midterm elections, an official said yesterday.

Francisco Martinez, head of the MMDA clearing operation, said workers collected tarpaulins, posters and streamers from walls and trees as well as cable, power and telephone lines.

Martinez said the collected material will be brought to a garbage facility for recycling or disposal.

Tarpaulins from the 2010 elections were used to build tents for displaced residents affected by the flooding in Compostela Valley last year.
