Olivarez brods overwhelmed by voters’ support

MANILA, Philippines - Parañaque Mayor-elect Edwin Olivarez and his brother, now first district Rep. Eric Olivarez, said yesterday they were overwhelmed by their victory in Monday’s polls.

“We are overwhelmed by the massive support we got from the people of Parañaque City,” Eric told The STAR during their proclamation Tuesday.

Edwin defeated Florencio “Benjo” Bernabe III, the son of outgoing Mayor Florencio “Jun” Bernabe Jr. The brothers, sons of former mayor Pablo Olivarez, ran under the Liberal Party’s banner.

The younger Bernabe’s running mate, Rico Golez, won against Edwin Benzon. Golez is a son of outgoing second district Rep. Roilo Golez.

Eric defeated Eduardo Zialcita and independent candidate Jun Romey while Gus Tambunting won against Joey Marquez and Pacifico Rosal in the second district.

Edwin said he will make the city hall more accessible to the people.

Celebrities Alma Moreno, Jason Webb and Ryan Yllana won seats in the city council.
