Manila bets’ supporters figure in brawl

MANILA, Philippines - A supporter of Councilor Lou Veloso was allegedly beaten by the supporters of District 6 congressional candidate Benny Abante following an argument over illegal posters yesterday.

Veloso told Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim that he and a supporter were cleaning up at the Phil-Thai Circle Plaza before the poll precincts opened yesterday morning when Abante arrived and confronted him.

He said Abante’s followers started attacking his supporter.

Veloso said the plaza was filled with Abante’s banners, which violated the Commission on Elections’ rules on illegally placed campaign material.
